Types of Muscle

The body contains three types of muscle: smooth, cardiac, and skeletal

Smooth (involuntary muscle)

-Involuntary
-Walls of hollow

Smooth would be your esophagus once you've chewed food up and swallow it goes into your esophagus and the process of muscular contraction that move the food down you esophagus to your stomach is involuntary. Lacks striations. Consists of spindle-shaped cells, each with a single nucleus. Contraction is involuntary, occurring without conscious control.  Functions in the movement of substances in the intestines and blood vessels.

Cardiac (involuntary muscle)

-Involuntary
-Heart muscle

Cardiac is an involuntary muscle you don't sit there and control your heart, it just happens. Anterior ventricular to contract and relax and pump the blood threw your body it just happens. Diaphragm can be both voluntary and involuntary. Found only in the walls of the heart. Has striations and a single, centrally places nucleus. Cardiac muscle cells are branched and bound together.

Skeletal (voluntary muscle)

-Voluntary
-Attached to skeleton

You actually do think your going to move, that might not be a super conscious thought like ' I'm going to get up and walk to the other side of the room' you do have to think about it, its a decision that you make consciously. Even a reflex although it's a quick decision.
